RLS and ADD ADHD

Talk about learning something new! I have RLS to the point that I can’t sleep some nights or I toss and turn like crazy. It is the pits when I am really tired and it kicks in. Sometimes I get the feeling that RLS just loves to sneak up on me when I lay down to rest. It usually doesn’t bother me when I am up and doing things. Even sitting at the computer it tends to leave me alone, but, hey, once I decide it’s time to hit the sack RLS rears its ugly head. Scientific research is starting to show that there is a relationship between RLS and severe ADD ADHD. Follow these links to learn more:

    Hello Bryan!
Very interesting about the RLS and ADHD!! I was diagnosed with ADD and ADHD in July, 08 but after a month of adderall (which helped TREMENDOUSLY) i began to have very severe calf cramps that would wake me up at night, or be triggered in the morning when i would stretch. My boyfriend suggested i have low potassium levels and so i began to have a banana a day. My calf cramps stopped instantly. Recently however, i have developed a terrible allergy to sulfites, and latex fruits make my mouth raw so i stopped eating bananas. Now my calf cramps are back and are SO PAINFUL! According to my pharmacist, the potassium may have helped but it was actually the iron in the bananas that did the trick, which is also linked to RLS. Do you think it would hurt to take a small iron supplement to balance things out again?

    Hi Rosemarie,

RLS can’t really be described as ‘cramps’; it’s a rather odd sensation of the legs being jumpy. I am not certain Iron supplements will help RLS; however, magnesium should help cramps. I would talk to a doctor about that though, because, it could be something else or somehow related to the medication you are taking. It’s very important to discuss any supplements with your doctor, especially when taking medication such as what you are using. Thanks for commenting… btw, bananas are always good for us :)

I have restless legs or so I believe..and had MS. It feels like you would rub a nerve. My legs tend to twist.
