You know I have been trying to find the actual interview of her speaking, but instead found a lot of other interviews. I notice a lot of us comparing her words to her age, but how many have noticed how clear and aware her interviews are?

lol, now that's interesting Scott!

I think I do see what you are saying. It seems you were finding a way to fit in and it was difficult to find friends? And then you would get bored with them and become the leader of the pack of loners?

It was(and still is somewhat) hard, Bryan, to find a Peer. Even though I don't remember what I did a few days or even a few hours ago(chuckle), I remember very well and in amazing detail, some thoughts and events in early childhood....I wanted to be a Peer of any group/gang of kids. That was the struggle for me.

When I did find some stimulation resulting from the rebellious and dangerous activity's of a particular group, it would become boring and I would feel like I was a follower. Then become the leader of the followers, which resulted in confrontation with the guys that pressured them in the first place. It wasn't my goal to do that. And then became boring again..to me. Was that confusing enough? I thrived on the pressure of what I hoped would be Peers.

Many thoughts come to mind for me on this topic, not only peer pressure, but also what happened to all the people we looked at as kids as our heroes?

I live in Nashville, so, I see how much children and young adults follow her where she goes. She is looked upto as their hero. Her fans dress like here, look like her , want to be her - so does that mean it would be cool for them to take crazy pills too? Your young and your peers thinks that is cool, and I have to say Adderall is a very easy to obtain street drug, so know her fans can take crazy drugs too?

Peer Pressure for children and teens these days are hard enough. If children look up to you I think you should talk about ADD/ADHD, but in a positive way, this shows your followers that wow I do not feel bad that I have ADD my hero does. I can be something, I can do things and be ok!

Encourage - do not make a joke of your meds.

To Sharon - We do Deserve better and we are not crazy, even though most of my friends think I am and that it is always me to get their meds checked and so on. We get in with the wrong group, because we want to fit in with somewhere. I been their done that and finished with that. You are a good person, you have ADD/ADHD - you are not crazy....It is the people around us that do not understand - not us. We are good and do deserve better---that is a choice you have to make!

Hi Sharon, that's a very difficult question to answer, but I can tell you what immediately comes to mind, to me. All that you mentioned seems wonderful, but to the child / teen / adult, they may want different things. Perhaps pastoral care isn't her cup of tea or maybe something has happened over the years you might know nothing about, such as teasing, pressure and other things happening away from the home? Perhaps she has dreams and aspirations she hasn't felt comfortable with sharing at home and she sees these friends as ways to express herself, even though they might not be 'the right' friends or have the same beliefs etc... It might be a good idea to find a way to discuss what she wants, what she aspires for and then find ways to give her support, because if she is aspiring for something which is not approved of at home, there are others who will support her for good or for not so good.

I am not sure, but there's is clearly a lot to consider...? I could be way off base too!

I guess my question is: why, despite the unconditional love, devotion and commitment of family; an early adult chooses the dangerous path laid out by their "friends" -- eventhough they are treated badly time after time ....

Peer pressure currently means "acceptance by peer group at any cost"... OUR PEOPLE DESERVE BETTER!

Bryan, great article; thankyou.

I have a couple of personal observations I would like to share:
. degree of receptiveness impacts on success of resolution
. socio-economic status does not help -- we are not rich or privileged -- but we have sacrificed much to invest huge amounts to send our daughter to a school with a strong pastoral care program -- she is now being pressured/ controlled by some children of wealthy parents
