Last week I posted about my free eBook, 7 Crucial Tips for Parents and Teachers of Children with ADHD, which was bootlegged, uploaded to Amazon.com and sold as a Kindle download.
Amazon has taken down the illegal Kindle bootlegged copy, as they have taken down the other eBooks by me that were not authorized. This is a very important story, because Amazon is one of the premier retailers online which bootleggers / pirates have targeted and are using illegally. If I had not accidentally found my fee eBooks there to begin with then they would still be there.
Why is it important to share this story? Because authors take a lot of time and effort to provide a market of free eBooks, if bootleggers are going to take them and successfully sell them as Kindle books, then we all may suffer by less effort to provide free eBooks online. Do you enjoy free information? Or, have you ever thought about creating an eBook and giving it away? Then it’s a good idea to share this story and others like it to get the word out. And perhaps if we are loud enough, then Amazon will put in place better ways to authenticate the rights of the seller. I can’t imagine that Amazon is happy with this type of behavior either.
Thanks to everyone who shared the story last week. Every single person that liked the story and shared the story had an impact and made a difference! This goes to show we can make a difference together!
I am still awaiting information from Amazon about who the seller is and what profits were made from all of my eBooks sold so far as illegal Kindle downloads. I wonder if I will ever get that information? What do you think?
If it happens again, I will let you know. Do you think it will happen again? 3 times so far!! Keep free eBooks free!
Thanks everyone,
Bryan
