Bryan,

I am living your message. I am engaged to my beautiful fiance and am meeting life with success on all fronts. How? By turning negatives into positives.

I came home from work the other day without my backpack. I could have said: "I am SUCH an idiot." Instead, I was kind to myself. I was forgiving of myself. That's when I came up with a perfect idea for the afternoon. Grab my dog (I was already home), go back to school and get my backpack, then pick up my fiance's dog and have a great adventure in the woods.

I was once CRIPPLED with anxiety and depression, before I was diagnosed. Now I am accepting of my ADHD, and my cup is full.

Your blog, and message, are spot on. We have tons of potential, and the ability to contribute positively in our communities.

There is an epidemic of suffering amongst ADDers, especially young ones who are being asked to do things they are not designed to do (by our school system). Your message will heal, as long as more people read it.

THANK YOU!!!

Thank you all for your comments!

Empowerment - words, thoughts and beliefs. I have been joining groups as a guest speaker lately and will share some great stories in the near future about taking the 'podium'. I think I have found yet another passion which favors my skills! Let's keep moving forward.

Bryan, that was bar far the best piece of writing that you have ever put forth. I am absolutely awed by how powerful this post is. I agree with you 100%, on all fronts. It has been a year now since I was diagnosed at the age of 32. And what a year it has been! I was beat down, convinced I was and always would be a failure, consumed by negativity and poor self esteem. A year later, through acceptance of ADHD as a part of me, through connecting with others who struggle with the same symptoms, through educating myself and through learning to love myself for who I am, I have found my passion for life and the career that will satisy my dreams and ambitions.

Part of your answer to my question is exactly the reason that I am a coach now. I see too many people, on ADDer World and elsewhere, who have so much potential, so much creativity, so much to offer to the world - but they have been pushed so far down by the world and by their own negative thinking, that they cannot even see their own value. To me, that's the most crippling effect of ADHD - not the forgetfulness, not the inattention, not losing your keys for the 10th time this month. It's the loss of hope that is so painfully prevalent among us. I was fortunate, thanks to a special couple of people in my life, I found that hope, I found that courage, and I found that belief in myself. I want to bring that to everyone that I meet, because it's made such a powerful impact on my life. We just need someone to believe in us, it's really that simple. I want to be that person.

Thank you Bryan, for being one of the people who has believed in me, and saw things in me that I hadn't yet seen myself. Your encouragement and support has helped me more than you know, and it was an honor to be able to give back to you with your biography a small portion of what you have given me.

YOU ROCK!!!

Dear Bryan,
There is so much in this piece that you have written. The struggles, the challenges, the victories with ADD, the importance of positive thinking, being yourself, being empowered, having a vision and seeing it through, and much more.

Yes, each of us must grow and become the best that we can be---not by someone else's yardstick but by our own personal and ongoing evaluation of self.

Thank you for taking the time to write this "from the heart" for all the ADDers out here. Very inspiring and motivating!

Thanks for all you do for ADDer World, too.

Hi Bryan.

Great post.

I agree with everything you say except there is one item that I must take issue with, which is that by now I thought you knew that I was the center of the Universe. :-)

Your comment: "I also discovered that I was always trying to live up to the expectations of others and their beliefs." was my biggest problem growing up, always feeling like a failure because I never was able to accomplish that.

Knowing now that when I do the best I can do, then that is perfectly fine no matter what anyone else thinks. I realize that more and more as I spend time in the ADDerWorld, which I also have to mention while I may be the center of the Universe, you will always be the center of the ADDerWorld. :-)

Thanks for being you.
