Stephen King’s – The Stand – First book I ever read start to finish

Stephen King’s – The Stand – First book I ever read start to finish

As a youth in school I was assigned books to read, just like everyone else and probably some of the same books as you, but I was never able to read any of those books through to completion. I skimmed them and when I didn’t find anything of interest I put them away. As you can surmise, I did not fare well on book reports! However, as I got older into my late teens I found myself spending a lot of time sitting around being bored. I have the non-hyperactive type of ADD, so I wasn’t always in the mood to seek a thrill. Often I would just sit around in the late afternoons staring out of the window daydreaming or just thinking things. I didn’t have too many friends and when the friends I did have were busy or didn’t have time, I just sat around at home doing nothing […]

I think the world is indeed waking up to the realities of ADD ADHD

I think the world is indeed waking up to the realities of ADD ADHD

I am an Adder – not a Pirate.  I have always been easily bored and therefore I have always been in the search mode of seeking stimulation. The search mode is great for learning and discovering and creating, but if you’re not an Adder it might be difficult for you to understand how it is that I can overcome my inability to pay attention to what schools have determined are necessary for learning or passing. Just because I did not seem to pay attention in school does not mean that I did not learn and just because I did not always pass the required classes, it does not mean I did not learn the lessons in the class, or at least some of the lessons, perhaps. Actually, what that really means is

Positive ADDer Quote of the week

Positive ADDer Quote of the week

“As long as I can remember I feel I have had this great creative and spiritual force within me that is greater than faith, greater than ambition, greater than confidence, greater than determination, greater than vision. It is all these combined. My brain becomes magnetized with this dominating force which I hold in my hand.” Bruce Lee Was Bruce Lee an Adder? I don’t know—I don’t even know if it has been speculated and yet when I read his writings and read what people have said about Bruce Lee, it certainly seems that he may have been an Adder. One thing is for certain: Bruce Lee was absolutely Hyper-Focused on his Martial Arts. It has been said that when Bruce was not practicing Martial Arts, then he was thinking about Martial Arts and if he was asleep, well then he was dreaming about Martial Arts. I find the above quote to […]

Focusing on the negative and ignoring the positive: the inflexibility of trial and error learning.

Every day we find ourselves in different positions and situations, some are great and some we would rather not be in. There is a lot of negativity out there and there are a lot of positive things out there and yet some of us feel like each day is a struggle for survival not really giving any positive influences the credit they deserve. Some of us even get to the point that when something positive occurs we automatically assume something negative will develop from it. For this rationality we draw from past experiences, often expanding the negative experiences beyond what they originally were about.

How to turn on your Hyper-Focus – Part 1

How to turn on your Hyper-Focus – Part 1

If I had to use one word to describe how I turn on my Hyper-Focusing ability it would be “Enthusiasm”! As difficult as it is for an Adder to become interested in something for which he or she has no interest, enthusiasm can make all the difference in the world! Something which isn’t noted as much as our Hyper-Focusing ability is our extraordinary ability to become enthusiastic. Enthusiasm is our key to success and happiness by generating positive thinking, positive reinforcement and positive action
