Today is a great day! Today, I finished writing my latest book and it’s perhaps my most ambitious writing since One Boy’s Struggle: A Memoir . This time, though, it is about what I love to do most, it is about writing, blogging and publishing! More specifically, it is for anyone who wants to write and publish a book, especially those who do not feel as though they are qualified to do so. I think you are. If you have a story to tell, then, yes, in my opinion you can write your story and publish it, too!
My new book explains how I did it: How I wrote my books, how I published them and how I got the word out about them and how I continue to do so. I share my writing process, how I am able to write every day, especially how I have learned to overcome writer’s block and any self-defeating thoughts about the quality of my writing. There is a specific section about how to overcome naysayers (internal and external).
Self-publishing is very popular today, lots of people want to do it. I share my experience publishing my books, what I looked for when deciding on which company to use and several other factors that helped me make my decision. You’ll discover the steps I took to get my books in the hands of readers via self-publishing.
For those who want to get the word out about their book, I share my experience doing that, too. What good is it to write a book and no one knows about it? I explain what I have done to market my books and I also talk about what some try to do, but often is not such a good idea. I admit though, I have an advantage here. I have experience with marketing and I have learned from highly successful marketers and salespeople. Ultimately, in order for any book to become a ‘bestseller’ or even a ‘good’ seller, it’s about the ‘content’, but you still have to get the word out. I am an observer of ‘marketing’, because it has always interested me. More often than not, I see people going about marketing in such a way that they are more likely to repel, than attract and that’s a shame, but they are doing what I call ‘desperation’ marketing. In many areas I have had excellent success with ‘marketing’, part of it I believe is because of my ADHD mind and the way I ‘see and feel’ things ‘out of the box’, but mostly it is because of the mentorship training I had back when I was a door-to-door salesperson as a young man (a great job for someone like me, with ADHD, btw).
Here’s a brain twister for you: a marketer or salesperson doesn’t need to ‘sell’ a product that ‘sells’ itself, so what does a marketer or salesperson do? They simply make people aware of the product or service, but how they make people aware of it makes all the difference. That’s what I talk about.
There are a lot of books out there on these topics, so what I have written is what I would have found particularly beneficial when I was looking for information. Believe me, I did not have many of the answers when I started out. I’ve been through a lot of trials and errors, and hopefully I’ll save a lot of people a great deal of time. If you are in the process of, or have ever contemplated writing a book, then I think my new book will be highly beneficial to you. If you’ve written and published a book, but are having difficulty getting the word out, then the chapters on spreading the word may help you.
Have you thought about writing a book? Do you have questions about the writing process? I have received hundreds of email inquiries about writing, blogging and publishing, I used many of the questions to help me shape my new book. If you’ve ever sent me a question about writing, blogging, publishing or about getting the word out, I thank you for compelling me to write this new book! (BTW: I am hardly a master of writing – I am someone who does it, enjoys it and shares it with others. I seem to have had some success at it.)
I look forward to sharing my latest book with you! I do not have a release date yet and the title is still under wraps, so I will keep you updated! If you would like to be alerted to the release date, please take a moment to like my Facebook page. The like button is in the right column –>
