Updated Theme for ADDer World Blog

brainaw

Hey ya’ll!

I have updated my blog’s theme. Did you notice? Please, for heaven’s sake, tell me you did! Lie to me if you have to! JK.

I have been wanting to update my theme for quite a while and finally got around to doing it. I was going to hire out and find someone who could do this for me. Well, the prices folks were asking were just too high and some of the ideas sent my way I did not feel represented my self-image. Therefore, I took to updating the theme myself! Oh, boy, let me tell you that’s one heck of a frustrating, time consuming and ultimately rewarding task! The problem with having someone else create your theme, and represent the image about yourself, is that updating it becomes complicated and for that matter, when others put their hard work into it and design it for free, well, that sometimes, understandably, leads to hurt feelings when you change things later.

When I first created this blog I sincerely had no clue what a blog should or shouldn’t look like. Now ADDer World is nearly two years old come this July! I have a better idea of how I would like my blog to look and represent me. I will miss the initial theme design, I still consider it to be cool and it did cause quite a stir in some, both positive and negative. As a matter of fact, a blogger did a full page critique on my design and what he considered it to represent. I must say I learned quite a bit about how others may or may not view the theme and he had some very good information that I took into consideration. I didn’t agree with everything he had to say and frankly, I didn’t ask for his opinion. However, his opinion was valid in many respects and he did me a great justice in opening my mind! So, for that, Jeff, thank you! I value everyone’s opinion, even the ones that hurt a bit.

As far as Advertising goes. I use most of the proceeds from One Boy’s Struggle to maintain the costs of my websites and the ADDer World ADHD social network. So far I have not agreed to any outside advertising, eventually I may consider and reconsider some requests. Any reviews you see here on my blog are NOT paid for, at least they haven’t been so far. I do have quite a backlog on requested reviews and I will try to get to each as time goes on – if you haven’t seen a review you requested, it either means I haven’t gotten to it yet, or, I simply did not like it enough to give it a positive review and therefore refrained from reviewing it at all. Sorry, I don’t do negative. Not all reviews here have been requested, many have simply been reviewed because I especially liked the book or product.

Okay, that’s it for now, please, do let me know what you think of the new theme! Joan and I are heading out of town to celebrate our wedding anniversary, so don’t get worried if you don’t hear from me for a few days!

~Bryan

Bryan, I have inattentive ADHD, and truthfully I can’t remember what other blog theme was. I don’t retain things for long (more like very short), but maybe it didn’t make an impression on me. I love this blog’s new theme, which probably I would remember. I think you have done such a wonderful job putting together this informative website. I can’t imagine the time you spend inputing materials, articles, etc. I am in awe of your committment to this website. Thank You!!!!!!!!!!

    Bryan,

Excellent job, and done so quickly! I am still awash in change over at my place – gotta get on this next post now, – but just wanted to drop you and note and congratulate you on your speed, taste, and ‘focus!’

    Site is looking good!

Bryan. I can tell it is different. Cleaner, clearer, less “busy.”

I like it much better. I have a bit of trouble with clutter of all kinds – visual auditory, actual (material), you name it.

This is great. Good for you.

    Thanks y’all so much!

Oh Betsy, I have been told several times that the old design was too cluttered. I am so glad you noticed how much easier it is to navigate now.

    Bryan,
I agree that your blog looks more neat now (yes, I did notice). For someone who has no idea what a blog should or shouldn’t be, you have done a great job! One little suggestion: why don’t you make a ‘top’ link at the bottom of the blog, so we don’t need to scroll up too far to go back to the top.

I really appreciate your effort, to keep us connected. Sumpah!

Thanks Riri! I have not found a way to create such a link at the bottom of each page; however, I am looking into it.

I am trying something a tad different now by only having a summary of each post on the main page. This will make it easier to scroll and hopefully, by readers clicking to go to the article’s page, will inspire readers to leave their thoughts, ideas and opinions, or, at least make it easier to do so.

    Thanks!

Riri! There is now a ‘back to top’ link that can be used!!! Thanks for bringing the issue up, I hadn’t thought of it until you mentioned it :)
