ADD & Loving It Documentary online hosted by Patrick McKenna

This is by far the best video on ADHD, what it really is, that I have watched. It’s nearly an hour long, but it is well worth your time, which will pass much faster than you expect thanks to Patrick’s charming tour. The last few minutes will be especially helpful to anyone worried about the safety of ADHD medication and why it’s worth it to be treated properly. Here’s the link to the video (wish I could embed it here):

Thanks to Brian, a member of our ADDer World ADHD Social Network for pointing out this video to me and our members! And thank you Patrick McKenna for making this video for the rest of us!

Canadian comedy legend Patrick McKenna is after the truth. “Everything you think you know about A.D.D. is wrong.” In this one hour documentary he talks to researchers, specialists and doctors about A.D.D. and A.D.H.D.. He also chats with ordinary Canadians & Americans who are directly dealing with the challenges of this common problem. Interwoven with these insights, Patrick shares his own life story and his struggle with undiagnosed and untreated A.D.H.D, and now his success taking it on Adult A.D.D..

Thank you so much for making this video. I have ADHD that was diagnosed after I flunked out of nursing school at Johns Hopkins. The professors couldn’t understand why I wasn’t doing very well, because my undergraduate transcripts were so impressive. They said that I must not be working hard enough. On the contrary, I worked much harder than my peers. I am currently experiencing difficulties as a teacher because the administration of my school doesn’t understand why my being organized is so important to my survival. On a funny note, I always elect a “reminder guy” in my class who tells me where I just put my lesson plan that I was following. I would like to purchase the DVD so that I can show it to my administration so that they will understand me better. I can’t use medication because my system develops a tolerance for the medications and they become ineffective, so I am left to combat it on my own.

I thought the documentary was good. Informative and entertaining. My single biggest reservation and what stood out for me was the loyal, dutiful, and seemingly unflappable Mrs. McKenna. Wow….what a wonderful woman. Makes the rest of us look real bad. So, help me understand. Married to virtually the same checklist layered between all the talent, love, humour and the like, she can honestly sit on a couch in front of a camera and sum it up by saying “Don’t sweat the small stuff”. How trite, simplistic and irresponsible. For as thorough as the show was to have the only voice as the loyal caregiver be that is negligent. A purple dining room indeed. Please. If they had to call the police to calm the man down in a public place, imagine the hurt, hysteria and stress at home. Hang on….I don’t have to imagine. I’m not saying it’s all doom and gloom but on behalf of the other spouses, partners and children living with someone with ADD, please. A more balanced representation of life with ADD should have been presented. Maybe that’s another show but don’t sit there and pretend it’s not a big deal. She knows it is and she should have either been scripted or have been honest enough to acknowledge that. I’m not bitter but I am damaged. There can’t help but be residual damage. Mrs. McKenna is either in denial, faking or, perhaps, possesses God like qualities. Either way, not a balanced perspective.

My daughter and I just sat and watched the special on T.V.
We watched it and just loved it.

I P.V.R everything watching commercials drives me nuts. Okay except for that cell phone stalking commercial;)
Back to the point, I have A.D.H.D and both my children do to. I have a sixteen year old, and a six year old. You can just imagine my house in the evening.

Point being their came a time in my life when I looked at it as a gift. I write childrens books the ideas I can come up with are limitless. I say thank you to the A.D.H.D fairy for that. My teenage daughter is a talented writer, with amazing new ideas every five seconds.
The T.V special made us check out the site which I also love.
I need a copy of that show to give to family.
    It was awesome ;)
