The ADHD Mind Never Forgets That Moment

The ADHD Mind Never Forgets That Moment

Have you ever cried? For love’s sake, have you ever cried? The tears of sorrow, the tears of wanting, needing and not having? What could have been?   The perceptions of a mind caught in the past, hopes and dreams, of the past so long ago?   There was that moment. Do you remember?   Do you remember that moment? It was there. You held love so tight and you didn’t want to let go. It was so precious, so simple, so amazing, so complex, so extraordinary… it was everything.   There was that moment.   Do you remember?   Late at night, when you wake, do you remember it so clearly? Does it ever go away? It is like you just relived it again and you know, you know you will live it again… in your mind, in your dreams. Yes… again. Those memories so strong and so resiliently […]

Back to My Roots!

Back to My Roots!

Over the last few months I haven’t written as much as I would like here on my blog. For some strange reason I have been distracted. Figure that. Odd as that may be.   I could tell you a zillion excuses. If you know how fast I think of and write articles, you would soon realize that a zillion excuses do not qualify. Just check the sitemap 🙂   No, I had writers block. That’s what I called it, but, that’s not what it was.   I have gotten away from writing what I want to write. I have gotten away from writing what I originally set out to write and some of my articles have gone in a direction I never truly felt at one with. For a time I have been trying to mix in perceptions of others and just plain not writing from my heart.   I am […]

Keep on Keeping on with ADHD

Keep on Keeping on with ADHD

Sometimes that’s all we can do. Sometimes we do something tragic, something which is so disappointing that it hurts so much, the pain is excruciating, it resonates through our entire being and we just can’t help but ask ourselves… why? Why does it have to be that way… why does it have to be so hard… did I do something to curse my life, my existence… does my God hate me?   Ever feel that way? Ever curse the ground you walk on and just want to give up, lay down and say ‘no more!’? It’s so easy. It’s so natural. It’s so much a part of the condition we call ADHD that it isn’t something we want to describe or contemplate, it just is and too often we can’t seem to do anything about it.   I wish I didn’t, I wish I was… I wish… I wish… I wish… […]

Fundamentals – learning the basics for the first time!

Fundamentals – learning the basics for the first time!

I am about to tell you something about ADHD that will blow your mind! You will think about it and just go … Dang, that’s true! Then again, you might go… that’s ridiculous, Bryan’s lost his mind! One thing I have always been known for is that I am a very fast learner. No, I am not necessarily a fast runner, unless I am being chased, then I can get my run on pretty good. In the past being fast made me feel like I was better than everyone else, because, they were slow and then eventually and unfortunately, they would pass me for reasons I couldn’t understand. I hadn’t gotten any worse, I was still pretty darn good at what I was doing, so, why were these people passing me?! It was confounding I tell you! To make matters worse, these folks passing me could not do what I […]

Is there a Secret to Overcoming ADHD?

Is there a Secret to Overcoming ADHD?

You and I have great potential within us. Only you know what your potential is. It is not what others tell you it is. Your potential can be found within your desires, your interests and your dreams. I consider one of the greatest difficulties for those of us with ADHD is that we are in a modern world of saturation. Following our dreams, desires and interests is considered by too many to be wasteful, shameful and selfish; however, that’s only not true if you happen to be the very best at whatever your interests have created. Not everyone will become the best or find life sustaining success in the area of their desires; therefore, it is more appropriate to be realistic and join the conveyer belt of the modern world. It’s an inspiring reality, right? It is what it is… The most significant improvements in my life came through therapy […]

The benefit of ADHD – Right Braininess?

The benefit of ADHD – Right Braininess?

The benefit of ADHD – is there such a thing? To a degree, I believe there is. It’s hotly contested and some are very upset when the word benefit is even remotely used in conjunction with ADHD. I am not going to try and reinvent the wheel here, let’s push forward. The most obvious difficulties for ADDers have to do with standards. People with ADHD have difficulties coloring within the lines or complying with routine, predictable standards. Today’s world is all about standards and since those who have ADHD find such difficulty living within the rules of standards, they often suffer and some suffer extraordinarily. It is devastating for too many. There are Laws are in place to protect people with ADHD in certain situations, it’s gone that far. A couple hundred years ago ADHD doesn’t seem to have existed. The first story written about a child with ADHD was only 150 or so years ago. […]

Michael Phelps Smoking pot, weed, grass or something in a bong?!

Michael Phelps Smoking pot, weed, grass or something in a bong?!

I guess when you are insane famous a little photo can get a lot of attention, especially if you are considered the perfect role model. Truth is, nobody is perfect and nobody should be expected to be perfect. That being said, I read a couple recent blog posts about Michael’s situation and how his actions do, or better yet, do not relate to ADHD. Can you really separate the actions of someone with ADHD from ADHD itself? That’s a very good question. Check out these two articles which take a moment to put this whole shebang in perspective: Dr. Rory Stern’s take And another very interesting, no BS article by Jennifer Koretsky What do you think of Michael’s recent actions concerning smoking marijuana? Related to ADHD? Or just a 23 year old experimenting? Or… ~Bryan

Help Is On Its Way

Help Is On Its Way

Help Is On Its Way by Jenna Forrest- Book Review Jenna’s story is not simply an inspiration, which it is. It’s more than that, much more. It’s about a young person growing up in an adult world and having adult pressures surround her daily, such as her parent’s breakup and divorce, her sister moving out to live with their father, the place Jenna would like to go, but can’t. Jenna could have cracked and give in to the pressures that threatened to overwhelm her, but instead she has ‘Frank’. Frank is someone I know very well and yet I have never met Jenna in person. Being negative 80 points on a reward system to keep from being grounded, as Jenna’s sister was because she had chosen to protect Jenna, and still find positive and inspirational messages within all the chaos makes clear that Jenna’s intuition isn’t what one could call normal, […]

The Gift – The Curse – The Brilliant Reality of ADHD

The Gift – The Curse – The Brilliant Reality of ADHD

I am pleased, proud and thankful to announce the publication of my new book: The Brilliant Reality of ADHD! In many ways The Brilliant Reality of ADHD is a continuation of my first book One Boy’s Struggle: A Memoir and in many ways it set’s itself apart. When I started writing openly on the Internet, on this blog, I wrote strictly from my experiences, my life, my lessons learned and most of all, from my heart. I still write from all of those things and my writing has become enhanced by you, the readers. Thanks to your emails, your comments, your encouragements and yes, also your critique, my views and opinions have broadened beyond what I could have ever imagined. Thank you! A brief history: When I began writing my first book One Boy’s Struggle I had no intention of publishing it. It was an effort to get my thoughts […]
