Physciatric Therapy and ADHD

March 10th, 2010 · 3 Comments · 01 My Thoughts

I have been in a lot of battles in my life, some were life threatening, some were tug of wars with myself for things I simply did not understand and some were just me trying to be confrontational with, well, me, myself and I.

ADHD can suck so bad that nothing else matters, it leads to a life of constant struggle, going nowhere, unless backwards is a place you want to go. When an adult discovers he has ADHD (or she) I think it is natural to want to find treatment to improve the symptoms, to counter them as soon as possible. The quickest way to do that is with medication, the more profound and life enhancing way, I believe, is through professional physciatric therapy to actually go in and take stock of what we are thinking and why. The suddenly new possibilities of living an improved, aware life are the brightest ‘ohh shiny’ of all, but can also be the most damning.

You can’t take it back – what is said is said – ADHD impulsivity

March 6th, 2010 · 24 Comments · 01 My Thoughts, 4 Men, 4 women, What is ADD AD/HD?

Impulsivity can lead to disaster due to blurting out thoughts never meant to be spoken.

Thoughts race through our minds, here, there and back again. Some thoughts don’t mean much, they just race by and have no concrete meaning, but every now and then, in the heat of a moment or in uncontrolled haste, some thoughts never meant to be said slip out and, as much as we would like to and as much as we try to explain and apologize, we can’t take them back.

You are not alone

March 3rd, 2010 · 7 Comments · 000 Brilliant Reality of ADHD, 01 My Thoughts

It’s easier alone.

So it seems.

Sometimes, the preference to be alone is so great that it is hard to break away from, it’s seductive and oh so quiet. When we are alone there is no one to judge us, no one to condemn us, moreover, there is no one to argue with.

But, alas, being alone is so lonely.

Not to know what to say, or how to say it if you did know. It’s so much better to remain in the shadow, hushed and alone. When alone, there’s no grade or compliance, there’s no role to play or correction to make. It’s easier to be alone, because, there’s no one to tell you that you are wrong, that you don’t have what it takes, that the way you live is wrong, that what you are doing is causing problems, that how you act is unacceptable.

What is the meaning of life?

March 1st, 2010 · 3 Comments · 000 Brilliant Reality of ADHD, 01 My Thoughts, ADDer book reviews

To be beat down, criticized, punished and live with regret and guilt all of our days?

No.   There is another way – a positive, self fulfilling way.  I am going to share that way with you.

Life is more than we give it credit to be and yet too many of us live within a shell of fear and anxiety. We walk the halls of our life flinching from the slightest sound which echoes within our minds, on and on, and on. We fight against it, we try to be strong and we try to walk tall. We try to show confidence and strength. We go day to day wearing the mask of life as strong courageous human beings. But why does it have to be a mask, why does it have to hurt so much, why can’t we just be understood and accepted for who we are? Why do others try to hurt us and tear us down? Why do we want to give up and yet still continue?

Insecurities Are Not Attractive

February 23rd, 2010 · 23 Comments · 01 My Thoughts

“Let us not look back in anger, nor forward in fear, but around in awareness.”

~Unknown

It’s a harsh reality in the ADHD world, but let’s face it and put it right out there in the open: insecurities are not attractive, not sexy and in no way come across as positive statements in attracting a loving, caring partner.

Ouch!

It’s a glaring hindrance to fulfilling relationships for many people with ADHD, especially for undiagnosed or untreated ADDers and that is “insecurity”. Insecurities come across in many ways and most of those ways are ‘in disguise’!

Here are a few of them:

  • Jealousy
  • Acting funny (when the situation doesn’t call for it)
  • Teasing
  • Arrogance
  • Negativity
  • Distancing (not calling, staying away or just being quiet)
  • Anger

Advice I give to young people, students, teenagers, kids and children with ADD or ADHD

February 21st, 2010 · 1 Comment · 01 My Thoughts

There’s a certain question or group of questions which are basically the same that I get asked time and time again. The questions are: “What would you tell your younger self if you could go back in time?” – “What message do you have for the youth today suffering from ADHD?” – “What’s the one thing you would tell a student that would help them achieve academic success…?” And many more, but in the end the answers I give relate to all young people with ADHD, regardless of how the question is phrased:

1) Do not rely on trial and error alone.

Photo shoot for new book

February 12th, 2010 · 33 Comments · 01 My Thoughts, 05 Wife supports her ADDer, 4 Men, 4 women, Adult ADHD Sexy

A

Sorry I haven’t had the time to write as much as I would like lately. The new book has captured a lot more of my time than I thought it would and now that it is near completion, I really don’t have a clue what to write about at the moment. Hopefully, that’s just a phase? Have you finished a major project and then kind of wondered around a while wondering what to do next and it seems as though there’s nothing else to do? That’s kind of where I am at.

For the new book Joan and I wanted to include a few pictures for very specific places within it. You get to see a selection we are considering in this post. Please tell us which one’s you like best. We want you to have a part in this book. Next week we reveal the completed cover, which was accomplished with the assistance of members’ suggestions!

Interview – Relationships and 2010 another New Year!

December 31st, 2009 · 2 Comments · 01 My Thoughts, Adult ADHD Sexy

The other day I came across an interview I did for ADD.about.com in August 2008, not too long after I published my first book. Keath Low conducted the interview; she is the caring and wonderful guide to ADD for About.com. Keath wanted this interview to focus on peer relationships. After re-reading this interview I contacted Keath and asked her if I could re-post it. The reason is because in 2010 I will be publishing my next book Adult ADHD can be Sexy, this new book is about relationships, love, intimacy and ADHD! I have discovered that there is nothing I enjoy writing about more. Relationships have had profound effects on my life and to be clear I have made a lot of mistakes within relationships, heartbreaks that have lived alive and well within me years after relationships ended or went awry.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! 2009

December 22nd, 2009 · No Comments · 01 My Thoughts

On our ADDer World ADHD Social Network, I recently re-posted my first Holiday / Christmas message from 2 years ago first posted on this blog, where I started my crusade. It’s hard to believe I have been writing this blog for nearly 3 years! WoW how time flies. With close to 400 blog posts in that time, you may think that I would eventually get tired of writing so much, but no, actually, I have also put together 3 books and 3 free E-books, well, let’s be fair, “The Brilliant Reality of ADHD” is mostly a collection of posts from this blog, so if you would like a souvenir, or want to support my writing or need a great gift idea, there you have it! This leads me to (I enjoy being led from time to time)…

Are ADDers the New Vampires?

December 20th, 2009 · 13 Comments · Adult ADHD Sexy

h54765

Adult ADHD can be sexy for many reasons, the list is literally endless, and yet the majority of those reasons are not for good behavior. Being generally bad can be sexy too and if there’s one word that is synonymous with ADHD, whether it is spoken or unspoken that word would be: Bad.

Bad Manners, Bad Behavior, Bad Morals and Bad Person and on and on…

Bad, Selfish, Narcissistic, Ill-mannered, lazy, unmotivated, and Stupid, Idiotic, Procrastinator and the ever popular Crazy are just a few of the names which have become staples in the depository of names for those of us with ADHD. In Adult ADHD can be Sexy I address a few of them and yet it is impossible to address all of them, not to mention exhausting too. In the end, they all mean the same thing.
