Headlines say: ADHD is Bogus?!

Headlines say: ADHD is Bogus?!

Lately, more and more headlines are reporting that ADHD is, to a degree, misdiagnosed because kids are put into a school environment too early and they must stay still for too long of periods, which is not natural to human nature. What’s worse is that with our hectic lifestyles and need for both parents to work to maintain a household it is becoming ever more essential for children to start school earlier. The reason is simple: many parents can’t afford daycare or a babysitter; therefore, school is the next best alternative. This isn’t really new, but it is becoming a more common problem. The reports are saying that kids put into school to early are sometimes being misdiagnosed with ADHD, when the real culprit is immaturity. I happen to agree that ADHD can be misdiagnosed due to requirements of the modern world and certain circumstances children are put in, adults […]

Recent Book Reviews: ADD ADHD Life Memoir

Recent Book Reviews: ADD ADHD Life Memoir

It is not a trivial thing to review a book you have enjoyed. It does my heart well and I continue to be touched deeply by what readers are taking from my first book. As time continues to move forward, as I write and publish more books, in true ADDer fashion I tend to worry more and more about the inexperienced writing of the first book I wrote. However, readers continue to validate that which I have shared with the world. It does my heart and soul good to know that my story continues to be of meaning to so many. Special thanks to my readers everywhere. You’ve done more for me than I could ever do for you. Recent reviews of One Boy’s Struggle: A Memoir – Surviving Life with Undiagnosed ADD: IT’S NOT MERELY HOPEFUL, IT’S AN ASSURANCE As an ADDer myself, I have read several books about […]

The Blocked Road at the ADHD Intersection

The Blocked Road at the ADHD Intersection

This article is specifically for those who have been, or, are still on a road that seems blocked. Have you ever been so frustrated because no matter what you try, no matter what you do or how much you want something, there’s just nothing in the world that seems to work? You cannot get past a certain point. Doesn’t it seem the road is blocked? Actually, I believe the road is blocked, indeed. Have you ever felt like you are traveling through life with the emergency brake on? In other words no matter how hard you press on the accelerator or how fast you may be going, it just doesn’t seem like you are getting anywhere. It doesn’t have to do with accomplishments or successes, it just seems like everything and anything either doesn’t live up to expectations or just never touches the right buttons. We move on, backwards, forwards, […]

How to Get Published – My Short and Long Answer

How to Get Published – My Short and Long Answer

The short answer is quite simple: Just go ahead and do it! Really, that’s the short answer. If you have written a book there are several good quality “Self-publishing companies” that will publish your book and make it available to the public via their very own online book store and what’s more is that they will also add it to just about every other online book store as well. Yes, including Amazon! As a matter of fact, Amazon offers publishing too. Now, are you ready for the long answer? If so, get a cup of coffee or tea, or any kind of beverage, because, if you’re serious about publishing your work this part’s going to take a few extra minutes to read. I want you to be comfortable. Some of what I am going to reveal to you, you may not like, but you will want to know it anyway. The […]

Does Lindsay Lohan have ADHD? 90 days Jail time prescribed for her.

Does Lindsay Lohan have ADHD? 90 days Jail time prescribed for her.

I don’t know if Lindsay Lohan has ADHD, but with several news reports reporting that she is indeed taking prescribed ADHD medication, maybe it is true. It adds up. So, let’s go with the reality that there must be some semblance of truth if she is indeed taking the medication. If that’s the case, let’s discuss the public reactions to her behavior. Lindsay’s behavior, I think we all can agree, has been erratic, odd and extremely confusing – dangerous even. Sound familiar? But let’s not forget sometimes her behavior has been brilliant too, which is why she originally became famous. Many people literally hate and despise Lindsay for her negative, sometimes outlandish behavior. I have even read several degrading remarks by ADDers who, by the way, have displayed odd, erratic and extremely confusing behavior themselves from time to time (and yes, sometimes brilliant too), that is, if, they indeed have ADHD. I don’t want […]

Is it a Cult Classic? A Simple Book About A Kid With ADD Growing Up Into An Adult With ADD

Is it a Cult Classic? A Simple Book About A Kid With ADD Growing Up Into An Adult With ADD

About a year or so ago someone wrote me and told me that One Boy’s Struggle would become a cult classic. As per the usual with me I didn’t pay that complement much attention (yep – A.D.D.). It was a complement, right? Then a few weeks ago someone else wrote me and said nearly the same thing and then again, just last week yet another person called it a cult classic. The latest person didn’t even say it would be or could be, she said it is a cult classic! She was pretty much a-matter-of-fact about it. Okay, now I am starting to pay attention. I decided to look up ‘cult classic’ in the dictionary, or rather, Google, and this is what I found: Cult Classic – allwords.com: ‘A work of fiction that is extremely popular with a select audience but may or may not be successful at the […]

With Acceptance We Can Overcome and Achieve

With Acceptance We Can Overcome and Achieve

It’s true that with acceptance for who we are, and all which that encompasses, can we learn, overcome and thrive to achieve whatever kind of wonderful is for us. Far too often I read or hear people with ADHD berating themselves, putting themselves down and cursing ADHD, which is as much a part of who they are as anything else. Now, I am not saying ADHD doesn’t give us reasons to be ticked off, upset and feel dejected. Oh, it clearly does! But, you know what? No amount of self-deprecation will take ADHD away or force one’s self to be better or different or, heaven forbid, normal. It’s somewhat along the lines of a teacher scolding a child with ADHD with the intent that he can make the child realize that she is just lazy and, if she wants to enough, she can be normal and function in normal ‘accepted’ ways. The most […]
