5 Important Reasons to Focus on What Could Go Right (even if you have ADHD!)

5 Important Reasons to Focus on What Could Go Right (even if you have ADHD!)

The mind seeks to create what it constantly focuses on. 1) When focusing on what could go right we look for solutions, opinions, ideas, tools and even take lessons to create the outcome we desire. Alternatively, by focusing on what could go wrong we avoid those things because it’s going to go wrong anyway. 2) When focusing on what could go right we notice all the little things that will help us. The tiniest steps forward are viewed as progress. By focusing on what could go wrong any step forward is likely to be disregarded as never enough. 3) Focusing on what could go right stimulates and sustains your inspiration, motivation and enthusiasm. Why would you need those if it’s going to go wrong? 4) Focusing on what could go right creates a “can do” mentality. Focusing on what can go wrong creates a “can’t do” mentality. 5) Our focus attracts certain types of people. By focusing on what could go right […]

Have you labeled your ADHD?

Have you labeled your ADHD?

Over the last few years of reading and learning about ADHD I have noticed one thing many people with a positive, constructive perspective about ADHD have in common. And that is that they tend to label their ADHD in some way that sounds positively beneficial to them. These people tend to live happy lives and are a joy to be around, they laugh, dance and find ways to be genuinely kind and helpful to others.   I personally believe it is a wonderful thing to label one’s ADHD as you want to see it. ADHD is part of my uniqueness of being. The challenges do not magically disappear; of course not, but my point of view is to always look for solutions and possibilities, instead of waiting for the next shoe to drop.   If you have, what have you labeled your ADHD?   When I read about how someone who has […]

How to Stay Positive and Happy Every Day – with ADHD!

How to Stay Positive and Happy Every Day – with ADHD!

The title of this post is a question I received from a reader just the other day and I thought it would make a great blog post: How can I stay positive and happy every day? I have ADHD!   There’s a common assumption that if you have ADHD life is pretty much is going to suck every day. Heck, I bet you can prove it, too! We are quickly drawn to the ‘problems’, ’challenges’ and ‘bad behavior’. It is natural and normal.   Here’s a simple multi-part tip that I have used for the last few years and I have found it very effective: Every morning before starting the day tell yourself something ‘good’ is going to happen today. At night, as you settle in to bed, reach over to your nightstand and open a special journal. In this special journal write down the ‘good’ thing(s) that happened that day. […]

Lessons from Steve Jobs! Today is a Great Day even with ADHD!

Lessons from Steve Jobs! Today is a Great Day even with ADHD!

“Today is a day the Lord has made and I shall rejoice and be glad in it!” ~Me, today. I admit, I’ve never been an overly religious person, but the above statement always changes my perspective of the day that is ahead of me and I say it every morning when I wake up. Earlier this year I underwent surgery for something the doctors were not sure of. First, they were going to insert a camera into my body just above my naval and explore my insides to see if they could find the source of my pain and if they did, perhaps remove whatever it turned out to be. I had been suffering from severe pain in my abdomen for several months and didn’t know why. I was scared, to put it gently. They had already done every examination you can imagine, but could not find the source. As it turned out […]

The Hecklers and Naysayers of People with ADHD – Recognize and Avoid Them!

The Hecklers and Naysayers of People with ADHD – Recognize and Avoid Them!

There’s a downside to ADHD that spirals many of us out of control and that is the power of hecklers and naysayers who will do and say anything and everything to get others to see the worst in themselves, their situation and life in general. You know the one’s I am talking about (hint, they are not those people who see, or point out, the best in you). They are the people who agree with everything you can’t do and explain in every way imaginable, as scientifically, historically and logically possible that because you have ADHD the challenges you face are impossible to overcome, much less to succeed in whatever endeavor you might attempt.    The hecklers and naysayers want you realize that because of ADHD you can’t do anything and because you have ADHD you will never be able to do anything. As a matter of fact, the research suggests you might […]

The Brilliant Gifts of Hyper Focus and Positivity

The Brilliant Gifts of Hyper Focus and Positivity

(This post was inspired by an email I received from a young lady who was attacked angrily on a forum because she talked about hyper focus. The other person claimed it doesn’t exist.) I love to hyper focus and I do it on a regular basis, I’ve written many blog posts about it, I wrote extensively about it in my first book One Boy’s Struggle: A Memoir and, I have additionally written an eBook about it in an effort to help others discover ways to hyper focus at will. However, although hyper focus is a well known ADHD trait, not everyone with ADHD can hyper focus easily, sometimes rarely and some seemingly not at all. I tend to believe everyone has been lost in focus at one point or another, forgetting to eat, missing a turn or, just realizing by looking up at the clock that whoa, so much time […]

The Gift of Positivity even With ADHD

The Gift of Positivity even With ADHD

There’s a lot to say about ADHD We know the devastations and the ramifications of untreated ADHD and oftentimes treatments don’t always work all that well and we spend years, upon years looking for the magic potion. Yet, sooner or later, we come to a point when we realize that one doesn’t exist. Or, does it? No, probably not, but something else does exist and it can come pretty darn close. Have you ever been beat down, physically punished to the point that the pain is so horrible you can’t even see straight, much less think straight? I have, more times than I care to remember. I’ve been through horrendous, painful things that have been brought on by my untreated, undiagnosed ADHD and a lot of it before I ever reached my teens. You might think I would grow to be an extremely resentful, angry and hurt person. You would be […]

The Boy That Became a Fiery Phoenix

The Boy That Became a Fiery Phoenix

I fully believe in the process of looking on the brighter side, it’s my way, it works for me. Each and every day is a day of opportunity, good things can happen and more often than not, when I expect good things to happen, they usually do. It wasn’t always this way. Having undiagnosed ADHD most of my life led to a lot of heartache and tragedy. I was constantly in the mode of waiting for the other shoe to drop and the other shoe typically dropped very hard indeed. What I have learned is that we usually get what we expect and to a degree we can create our own life-forecast.  It’s true. How many times have you heard a hard luck story of a person that was far worse off than anything you have experienced and the story goes on to tell about that person rising from the […]

We can be worthy, we can be proud! Don’t let anyone tell you any different!

We can be worthy, we can be proud! Don’t let anyone tell you any different!

I write from a simple, but, powerful premise: We all have good within us and we all can improve! Together we can overcome our struggles and achieve our goals. I believe we all have something inside of us that drives us forward, something that inherently lets us know that tomorrow is worth it – we might not always be convinced of this, we might not always demonstrate it, but, I believe it is there, within each and every one of us! I know full well that we face difficulties and certain times can be extremely difficult. However, with proper treatment and support we can overcome. From experience, I can tell you that living in a perpetual belief that there is no hope and using our energy to explain why there is no hope, well, creates a hopeless situation for our self. Find me a person who tells you he can’t […]
