How to Stay Positive and Happy Every Day – with ADHD!

The title of this post is a question I received from a reader just the other day and I thought it would make a great blog post: How can I stay positive and happy every day? I have ADHD!

There’s a common assumption that if you have ADHD life is pretty much is going to suck every day. Heck, I bet you can prove it, too! We are quickly drawn to the ‘problems’, ’challenges’ and ‘bad behavior’. It is natural and normal.

Here’s a simple multi-part tip that I have used for the last few years and I have found it very effective:

  1. Every morning before starting the day tell yourself something ‘good’ is going to happen today.

The Brilliant Gifts of Hyper Focus and Positivity

(This post was inspired by an email I received from a young lady who was attacked angrily on a forum because she talked about hyper focus. The other person claimed it doesn’t exist.)

I love to hyper focus and I do it on a regular basis, I’ve written many blog posts about it, I wrote extensively about it in my first book One Boy’s Struggle: A Memoir and, I have additionally written an eBook about it in an effort to help others discover ways to hyper focus at will. However, although hyper focus is a well known ADHD trait, not everyone with ADHD can hyper focus easily, sometimes rarely and some seemingly not at all.

The Gift of Positivity even With ADHD

There’s a lot to say about ADHD, and we know the devastations and the ramifications of untreated ADHD. Oftentimes treatments don’t always work all that well and we spend years, upon years looking for the magic potion, yet, sooner or later we come to a point when we realize that one doesn’t exist. Or, does it? No, probably not, but something else does exist and it can come pretty darn close.

Have you ever been beat down, physically punished to the point that the pain is so horrible you can’t even see straight, much less think straight? I have, more times than I care to remember. I’ve been through horrendous, painful things that have been brought on by my untreated, undiagnosed ADHD and a lot of it before I ever reached my teens.

The Boy That Became a Fiery Phoenix

I fully believe in the process of looking on the brighter side, it’s my way, it works for me. Each and every day is a day of opportunity, good things can happen and more often than not, when I expect good things to happen, they usually do.

It wasn’t always this way. Having undiagnosed ADHD most of my life led to a lot of heartache and tragedy. I was constantly in the mode of waiting for the other shoe to drop and the other shoe typically dropped very hard indeed. What I have learned is that we usually get what we expect and to a degree we can create our own life-forecast.  It’s true.

10 Most Positive Things About ADHD eBook

Click to Download eBook

I have spent the last week putting together what is probably the most important and special project I have worked on in a while. It is a new eBook which I am presenting free to anyone interested in reading it and passing it on:

“10 Most Positive Things about ADHD”

Special thanks to my very special wife, Joan, for helping me complete this creation. If she hadn’t come to my rescue it may have taken a much longer time to get this finished! Ah, I am a lucky guy!

We can be worthy, we can be proud! Don’t let anyone tell you any different!

I write from a simple, but, powerful premise:

We all have good within us and we all can improve! Together we can overcome our struggles and achieve our goals. I believe we all have something inside of us that drives us forward, something that inherently lets us know that tomorrow is worth it – we might not always be convinced of this, we might not always demonstrate it, but, I believe it is there, within each and every one of us!

I know full well that we face difficulties and certain times can be extremely difficult. However, with proper treatment and support we can overcome. From experience, I can tell you that living in a perpetual belief that there is no hope and using our energy to explain why there is no hope, well, creates a hopeless situation for our self. Find me a person who tells you he can’t and I will show you a person who will not. Show me a person that believes in something and I will show you someone who will find a way!

Thriving or just Surviving with ADHD – Sometimes the past gets in the way

Some days, they pass so slowly and some days, they pass so fast. When we wake, nobody knows which type of day it will be.

There can be no preconceived plans without adaptation. There can be no reality without visiting our dreamlands. There can be no pleasure without intense pain. Everything has its price and it seems to me our price is higher and higher and is too unbelievably excessive!

We know we can – we know… there’s that place… right there – inside each and every one of us. You and me. That Special Feeling inside, inside our hearts, inside our minds, inside, yes, inside our very souls. When we reach it, but… oh, it’s just out of reach and so far away, and right… right there, just right there in front of us. You can see it, you can feel it and some days, on the good ones, you can almost touch it, just almost.
