Megan Meier Tragic Death – Depression and ADHD

Megan Meier Tragic Death – Depression and ADHD

By now you have probably read or heard about the tragic suicide of Megan Meier who was only 13 years old. It is reported that Megan suffered from Depression and ADHD, a deadly, yet not so uncommon combination. Due to Megan’s suicide a lot of people are taking notice and are darn right angry! They should be, but perhaps a bit too late? Dare I say Megan deserved better? So far it seems that neighboring adults had a hand in Megan’s fate by contacting her via MySpace and writing mean, hateful messages. That in of its self is very disturbing and not simply shameful, but evil, if it is true. Having been an ADD child I know what it is like to be different and misunderstood and I had some scruffs with my peers over my behavior, but had an adult taken upon him or herself to deliberately take advantage […]

My tears in the rain

My tears in the rain

I don’t want to count the years that have passed, it’s been a few, probably more than a few—more than a decade, could be two or three, but I remember those nights as clearly as if I was still there, sitting in the dark, nothing there, the TV off and no music playing—just me and my thoughts. So easy to get lost in my thoughts, to let them take me places I have never been, places of joy and happiness—right. Those places, places in my dreams—wanted them so badly, needed them so badly, but I was alone, so alone in my room with tears welling and emotions ebbing. Why? I asked myself the same question over and over again—why?        I could never say the right things, I could never get along with anyone and when I thought things were going great, even fantastic, the rug would always be pulled from […]

Black Friday Specials OMG!

Black Friday Specials OMG!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and then enjoyed the shopping of what has become known as Black Friday! Enjoyed it? Yeah! It’s a funfest as no other! Lines a mile long, throngs of people in the isles, pushing and shoving—there’s no avoiding any of that, it’s a fact of Black Friday life! But—when you finally put your hands on the prizes you went shopping for in the first place, then it makes everything worth it! It’s a wonderful feeling, getting that one thing, or two things, or if you’re lucky even more things you really, really wanted and maybe needed. It doesn’t matter though, if you needed them or not, it matters that you went forth, made it through and found items at prices you never dreamed of. There is no accomplishment quite like getting what you wanted on Black Friday!

Finding, Falling and Staying in love

Finding, Falling and Staying in love

Finding, Falling and Staying in love A couple years ago I wrote a book about love: “Finding, falling and staying in love”. It has never been published and to be honest I have not attempted to have it published, but for some reason I was clicking through the folders on my hard drive and I came upon it the other day. I opened it up and started reading it for the first time in a couple years. I finished writing it in 2005, before I was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder. While reading it I realized something I had not considered before. The book is written from my ADDer perspective and it could be of service to my readers on Adder World.    The more I thought about it and the more I read it, I was overwhelmed with emotions and kind of choked myself up. Yeah, I know—pathetic right? […]

The ADD ADHD Dilemma: Time

The ADD ADHD Dilemma: Time

I received a very interesting email this week about someone who wants to accomplish something, but the things involved such as time and school are holding him back. Not only that, this wonderfully talented person has a gift for craftsmanship, but hasn’t seemed to find a way to make that pay off in the monetary form.  His email really hit home and clearly points out one of the Adder Dilemma’s. What really jumped out at me, more than anything else in this email, were the time lines involved. The writer is very concerned about the time it will take to accomplish certain tasks for school etc. He didn’t seem too worried about if he could pass a class or a course or even a test—it was the time involved that really seemed to be the issue. Time, for Adders, is a very serious dilemma, one that can paralyze an […]

This is the third excerpt of “One Boy’s Struggle: A Memoir: Surviving life with undiagnosed ADD”

As ADDers, especially those of us who are undiagnosed, it seems that there are so many things against us. We often have to deal with and conform to the structure of the educational system, social structures, and expectations from others and ourselves. There is so much negativity attached to having Attention Deficit Disorder that often we are compelled to keep it a secret once we are diagnosed with it. If so much is against us, why in the world do we add ourselves to the list? Thinking negatively or being ashamed of having ADD is counterproductive to living successfully with it. As ADDers, we already face the challenges of making our way in a world which is not set up for our unique way of processing it. If we want to become successful and happy, we should encourage ourselves to think more positively about ADD and ourselves. Positive thinking […]

The ADD ADHD Dilemma – Are you a Hustler? Care to wager on that in a game of billiards pool?

The ADD ADHD Dilemma – Are you a Hustler? Care to wager on that in a game of billiards pool?

Part of the ADD ADHD dilemma is that Adders can and do often appear to be hustlers. That’s right, we sure do and it can be a serious problem, a problem that we curse and at the same time are thankful to have. It’s good and it’s bad. It’s great and it is sad, to the point that sometimes we wish we could be more normal, more even, more well rounded and more steady, but our hustle can be addicting and no matter how much we hate it, we love it even more when it works in our favor! So, you might be wondering – what is our Hustle?

Positive ADDer Quote of the week – Robin Williams

Positive ADDer Quote of the week – Robin Williams

“You’re only given a little spark of madness. You mustn’t lose it.”  “What’s right is what’s left if you do everything else wrong.” Robin Williams After learning yesterday that Robin Williams has ADHD I decided to look up some of what Robin Williams has said and what he stands for. Oh my! Robin is a very interesting person to say the least and he holds opinions like flags waving high in the wind. And you know what? If you take a closer look into what he really says and what he really means, you get the idea that this man wants to change the world for the better and if comedy helps do that, well then, so much the better! I can’t help but wonder how early Robin realized he was different than other people around him. As a young man he was very shy and quiet. He did not […]
